WOOD-FIRED, GAS, RAKU Reduction CLAYS
GAS REDUCTION , WOOD-FIRED and RAKU CLAY BODIES:
We offer specially formulated gas reduction, wood-fired, and raku clay bodies that are made to withstand thermal shock.
Shown left: Bowl by Nancy Magnusson made with our moist clay 42,
Soda and ash wood fired from her Noribagama kiln. Note that the body of this pot is unglazed... the lizella in this body creates great iridescent blues and purples in reduction kilns!
Avoid the frustrations of wood fired kiln and Raku work with our clay bodies designed to handle the special stress of those processes.
Our Raku Clay designed with a high percentage of coarse grog to withstand the thermal shock of fast firing and cooling in Raku. Can be used for wheel work, hand-building, and sculpture.
For pit firing, try the Raku clay or S14. These bodies have a wide firing range and good thermal shock absorption.
When pit firing, bisque your pieces in an electric kiln first for better results.
Expect a lot of broken pieces when you pit fire... it's the nature of the beast, but by doing a bisque firing first, you can reduce your loses.
WOOD FIRING IS GOOD FIRING !!!
Our "Wood Light" clay is designed for high temperature wood fired kilns. Shows excellent glaze results at high temperature. Screened and iron filtered for consistency.
