Clayscapes Pottery Glaze Mixing and Application Instructions and Tips


Amount of water to add to Clayscapes Pottery Glazes per pound:



If you have Albany Gold, Arctic Blue, Brick, Clinton Pottery Red, Coastal Blue, Copper Patina, Flame, Garden Green, Lake Effect White, Redwood, Royal Purple, or Satin Black

  • Add 12 ounces of water per dry pound of glaze and mix and let sit overnight and then add an additional 2 ounces of water per dry pound of glaze and mix again. We usually let them sit overnight again before using. Water Density is different in different parts of the country. This formula works for the Central NY area. You might need to add more water to your glaze if it is still too thick.

If you have Amber, Aqua, Aurora, Bright White, Brighton Beach, Bushwick, Butter, Coney Island, Cream, Crown Heights, Crystal Clear, Flatbush, Fog Gray, Frosted Mint, Greenpoint, Jessie’s Chun, Nebula, Pacific Blue, Park Slope, Pitch Black, Red Hook, Royal Blue, Shadow Blue, Smokey Purple, Spruce Blue, Starry Night, Sunset Park, Tim’s Dark Celadon, or Turquoise Rain

  • Add 10 ounces of water per dry pound of glaze and mix and let sit overnight and then add 2 ounces of water per dry pound of glaze and mix again. If you have Desert Sand or Wheat

  • Add 7 ounces of water per dry pound of glaze and mix – let sit overnight and then add 2 ounces of water per dry pound of glaze and mix again. We usually let them sit overnight again before using.


Water Density is different in different parts of the country. These formulas work for the Central NY area. You might need to add more water to your glaze if it is still too thick. These are intended for dipping/pouring but with modifications you can certainly spray/brush them. If you have any questions, please contact Clayscapes. Water Conversions
1 ounce = .06 pounds = 29 milliliters = .12 cup
2 ounces = .13 pounds = 59 milliliters = ¼ cup
3 ounces = .19 pounds = 88 milliliters = .37 cup
10 ounces = .63 pounds = 295 milliliters = 1 ¼ cups
12 ounces = .75 pounds = 353 milliliters = 1 ½ cups

These are intended for dipping/pouring but with modifications you can certainly spray/brush them. It is important to TEST before you use in production. If you find the glaze hard panning then you have added too much water.
