Architectural Buff Moist Stoneware Pottery Clay is our most rugged clay body.
Designed specifically to meet the demands of large architectural and sculptural ceramics. High grog content give this clay the ability to tolerate very thick construction. Expect it to behave perfectly in the longest wood firings at temperatures above cone 10. The color is highly responsive to reduction. In oxidation expect a buff color. In reduction atmosphere it starts to darken and can become quite dark with long and intense reduction phases. Designed for cone 10+ but for sculptural pieces it can be underfired if they do not need to hold water.. May or may not be water tight at cone 6. Test with your firing if you want to fire to cone 6.
Shown below are sculptures by Tony Moore are from his November 2015 firing. All from the Noborigama chamber and fired for three days. "An
excellent, heavily grogged clay that gives good color in the Noborigama
wood-firing, although it is naturally much darker in the Anagama where
there's more reduction and fluxing of iron in the clay-body"
