Paragon Janus Dragon
The Janus Dragon is an industrial furnace
that fires both pottery and glass. And considering its features, it is
surprisingly affordable.
The Janus Dragon exudes power. Its 16,800
watts heat the 24 wide, 24 deep, 27 high interior to cone 10 with
ample power to spare. Dropped, recessed grooves seat industrial-gauge
wall and roof elements. (You can even order the optional door elements.)
Select between glass and pottery with the
flip of a switch. With the switch in the glass position, heat comes
from the top elements and the middle sidewall element. With the switch
in the pottery position, heat comes from only the sidewall elements.
In the glass mode, fuse and sag large glass
projects placed on a single shelf. In the pottery mode, fire to cone
10. You can also fire several shelves of smaller glass pieces using the
pottery mode.
You will be amazed at the convenience of digital firing. The reliable solid-state Sentry
controller continually monitors the firing so you can spend your time
productively without closely watching the kiln. (Please remember,
however, to check the kiln during firing and to monitor it near the
expected shutoff time.) The sealed touch pad keeps out dust and is easy
to wipe clean.
The controller has powerful features that
you will enjoy using. Yet we have also worked hard to make the
controller user-friendly.
Do you ever wonder how much electricity
your kiln uses? The digital controller can figure this for you with the
press of a button. Find out how little a kiln actually costs to fire.
Learn to conserve energy by experimenting with firing speed, load
density, etc.
The elements in the roof are mounted in a
firebrick ball groove that eliminates element pins. The element coils
are wider than the groove opening, so the elements stay in place
without pins. The groove dissipates heat efficiently.
Extra insulation saves energy. The 4 thick
walls, top and door are made of 3 firebrick backed by 1 of ceramic
fiber block insulation. The floor is 4 ½ thick firebrick. The extra
insulation not only saves energy but also cools slowly. This gives the
micro-crystalline structure and color of the glaze sufficient time for
full development.
Long-lasting mercury relays power the
elements. A bank of built-in NEC/UL compliant high-amperage fuses
protects the kiln and circuit wiring.
Potters who struggle with top-loading kilns will enjoy the Janus
Dragon. The door swings open wide on a heavy Ύ steel rod with sealed
bearings. Two spring-loaded latches press the door tightly closed.
The 24 tall stand is also available with
casters for easy moving. The stand is priced separately from the Janus
Dragon. Also available is the 8 tall stand, which comes with casters.
When ordering a Janus Dragon, specify whether
the stand is to ship separate from the Janus Dragon or pre-installed
and shipped as one unit.
Doorway Clearance
The Janus Dragon will fit through a 34 doorway if the handles and back element cover are temporarily removed.
