They are rated to cone 11.\u003cbr\u003e They are \npressed into molds rather than cast. This compression makes them much \nstronger than regular cordierite kiln shelves. They have a very smooth \nfinish making them great for ceramics or glass firing. These shelves are\n highly recommended for any electric kiln from low fire to cone 10. They\n are also highly recommended gas kilns. They are occasionally used in \nthe back of wood kilns but for wood firing we recommend \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/sheffield-pottery.myshopify.com\/collections\/silicon-carbide-kiln-shelves\"\u003econventional silicon carbide shelves\u003c\/a\u003e. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eProtect your shelves with \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/sheffield-pottery.myshopify.com\/products\/sheffield-kiln-wash-5lb-bag-rmkilwas\"\u003ekiln wash\u003c\/a\u003e.\n Apply kiln wash to only one side of the shelf. When the kiln wash \nstarts to flake, thoroughly remove it, flip the shelf and apply to the \nother side. By flipping the shelf, slight warping can be counteracted.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBest\n practice when applying kiln wash is to apply a coat, fire it on, and \nrepeat that process two more times. This will give you a long lasting \ncoating to protect the shelves from glaze drips.
