The Rotary Sieve has a tapered, plastic body which fits firmly
on any round container. Handle extension allows it to rest on extra large
containers.
Push-in screens with molded rubber rims are interchangeable. Stainless
steel screens available in the following meshes: 40#,
60#, 80#, 100#, 120#, 150# and 200# .
Either wet or dry materials can be sieved quickly. For example, dry ash
can be put through a screen as fine as 100 mesh.
The brush-cluster is rotated against the screen by turning the handle
and the pressure required is regulated simply by pressing on the handle
as it is turned.
Brushes are held in a molded plastic center-piece sufficiently tightly
to ensure that they maintain contact with the screen even if this distorts
with use.
Brushes have nylon bristles set in a plastic back; they won't absorb
color and are easily washed. They are long-lasting, yet easily replaced.
After use, the screen can be removed and the brush-cluster pushed through
the bottom of the sieve for easy washing.
The handle is easily removed for easier transport, or if several brush-heads
are needed for different purposes - eg, for wet or dry uses.
The handle runs in a graphite-impregnated nylon bearing well clear of
the abrasive materials being used.
When dismantled, the sieve can be sent by UPS. It comes with
clear instructions for assembling.
NOTES ON NEW DESIGN FOR 2022
There has been a change to our rotary sieves design which changes the
assembly steps, and also impacts compatibility between parts in previous sieves.
The design
change is that instead of two
aluminum tabs welded to the frame which are used
for fixing the front “legs” of the Y frame to the bowl using a bolt and nut
each, there are now two molded brackets included in the fastener set that fit
over the frame’s front ‘legs’ and are secured to the bowl with two bolts on
each side. This changes the following components: the Y frame, the fastener
set, the bowl (just extra holes drilled, the bowl itself is the same) and the
user assembly guide.
The reasons
for the change are:
- Four bolts instead of two securing the frame to the bowl makes the
whole assembly stronger and more durable.
- Small variations in bowl size meant that the fixed aluminium tabs
were sometimes hard to line up with the holes in the bowl. We had some
feedback from customers who found this difficult to manage. The new design
allows the frame clamps to be fitted exactly in line with the bowl edge
without needing to pull the frame or bowl into line.
- The product looks more attractive with the clamps matching other colored
components. Although functional, the welded tabs were not as clean and
consistent as the new design.
The crank
handle, bearing block, brush assembly, rear mount and sieve screens remain the
same as previous versions and are completely interchangeable, however note the
following.
IF A Y
FRAME ASSEMBLY IS SUPPLIED AS A SPARE PART TO BE FITTED TO AN OLDER MODEL
TALISMAN SIEVE
The new Y
frame assembly can be retrofitted to an existing sieve bowl and will work with
existing crank handle, brush assembly and screens. However the customer will
require the new fastener set which has the front frame clamps and extra bolts
needed. An extra 5/16” / 8mm hole must be drilled into the edge of the bowl for
each frame clamp. The existing holes that the welded aluminium tab is bolted
through are reused as the inner frame clamp holes. The location of the outer
holes can be guided by first fitting the frame and clamps with one bolt and
then drilling the bowl through the second hole in each clamp – it’s a very
simple process requiring just a hand drill and a 5/16” or 8mm drill bit.
