Mayco Glaze SC-96 Aqu-ward Pint

Stroke & Coat® glazes are certified AP non-toxic and food safe.
Stroke & Coat® glazes can be applied to wet or leather-hard clay as well as bisque, fired from cone 06 to 10, in oxidation or reduction. Apply for all over coverage or in a painterly style, Stroke & Coat® can be the star or play a supporting role in endless glaze combinations. It is the ideal product of choice for the studio, classroom, potter, and fine artists.

Stroke & Coat ® is the premier product to use in the “One Fire” or “1-2-3 Step” method of decorating on bisque. Apply to bisque, let dry, clear glaze and fire, producing a finish that is almost fool proof for everyone from the amateur to the master ceramist.
If one coat is applied, you get transparent coverage, two coats give a semi-opaque coverage, and three coats give a solid coverage. The variety of colors is not limited to the palette given, as all are inter-mixable to obtain intermediate shades. When applied heavily the color will retain some dimensional qualities that give the decorator a useful tool in a variety of techniques. They can also be applied over any non-moving glaze, underglaze, or Astro Gem™ surface. When thinned Stroke and Coat ®; is applied on top of a Series 2000 Matte surface in a brushstroke design or watercolor technique, Stroke & Coat takes on the underlying matte characteristic of the glaze. Two to three coats on top of a Series 2000 Matte glaze will give a shinier surface.
Stroke & Coat colors range from vibrant brights to pastel shades, and Speckled Stroke & Coats® provide a variety of speckled colors for today’s decorating needs. They can be used in a variety of decorating techniques like antiquing, banding, brushstroke work, dimensional accents, glaze butting, Majolica, marbleizing, spattering, sponging, stenciling and watercolor applications. A top coat of a clear glaze or a S-2000 transparent glaze should be applied to the dried color when not applied over an unfired glaze, as in a Majolica technique. This topcoat of glaze can be a clear dipping or a brush on type of clear glaze. Stroke and Coats‚ are resistant to streaking or bleeding of the colors when the top coat of glaze is applied to the dry color, whether it is dipped, sponged or brushed onto the surface. There is no bleeding or running of the colors in the firing process.

Product Features, Attributes and Application Recommendations:

  • Non-toxic.
  • Designed to be applied to properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.
  • Apply one coat for a translucent finish.
  • Apply three coats for solid opaque coverage.
  • All colors are intermixable, which allows for the creation of a wider color palette.
  • Colors, in their liquid state, are true to their fired color finish. True color out of the jar helps make choosing colors for design work easier.
  • Use a soft glaze brush for ease of application.
  • Apply smooth even coats for solid coverage. Dimensional or embossed (raised) effects can be achieved with heavy, layered applications.
  • Can be used with any clear glaze, dipping or brush-on type. Stroke & Coat® fires to a gloss finish and may not require a clear glaze to achieve a high gloss finish.
  • Fire to shelf cone 06.
  • Dinnerware safe.
  • All colors are luster compatible.
  • Can be fired up to shelf cone 6. Check Mid Fire Guide for visual and descriptive information.
  • Speckled Stroke & Coat® performs in the same manner and has the same characteristics as the opaque Stroke & Coat® line.

Special Notes:

  • SC-13 Grapel, SC-33 Fruit of the Vine and SC-85 Orkid are formulated with chrome-tin pigments and can be sensitive to non-toxic clear glazes; namely – a milky/cloudy haze may form over the colors. Test by adding a light application of the clear glaze to these colors. These colors will not fade when used with Mayco’s Clear One Dipping (NT-CLR).
  • SC-70 Pink-a-Dot is more translucent than other Stroke & Coat® glazes. Additional coats (more than 3) may be necessary to achieve opacity.
  • Stroke & Coat® glazes do not move or blend when used with other glazes. You can apply side-by-side or layer without losing the integrity of the design.
  • Can be applied with a brush, sponge, detailer bottle, mats, stamps or silkscreens.

SECTION 2: PRODUCT USE

How do I decorate with Stroke & Coat®?
Apply one coat for a translucent look and three coats for an opaque look. You get great coverage, even when applying light colors over dark colors. Stroke & Coat does not run or bleed, regardless of how it is applied. Colors can be layered or butted up against other colors. Use for precise design work or layered with other glazes for majolica projects. Not the conventional user? Thin it with water and spray apply with a spray bottle. Or create a dimensional look by using in a detailer or slip trialing bottle. Other techniques that can be used with Stroke & Coat include marbleizing, spattering and sponging, anything your heart desires.

Do I have to use clear glaze to achieve a glossy finish?
Stroke & Coat®, because of their formulation, fire glossy and do not require a clear glaze application. But, if desired, they are compatible with a clear glaze in one firing.

Is Stroke & Coat® designed only for bisque?
There’s no need to buy a separate glaze for each clay body you work with. Apply Stroke & Coat® to greenware, bisque, earthenware or stoneware. Stroke and Coat’s unique composition will fit high expansion talc bodies to low expansion stonewares . . . all without crazing or shivering. When applying Stroke & Coat ® to greenware, do not glaze the bottom of the piece so that the gases can escape.

What should Stroke & Coat® be fired to?
While the majority of glazes are designed to mature at shelf cone 06, Stroke & Coat performs well up to cone 9 & 10. Unlike some glazes where overfiring by one or two cone difference means having washed out color, Stroke & Coat ® maintains it’s color, vibrancy & quality surface. All colors are luster compatible. Stroke & Coat also works for Raku. All Stroke & Coat colors can be fired at the same time without any color changes. Most Stroke & Coat colors can be fired multiple times and still hold their bright colors.

How is Stroke & Coat® different from other bisque strokes?
Stroke & Coat® covers up misapplications and corrects mistakes resulting in a beautiful finished piece time after time. It accommodates the user and occasional underfired bisque because of the product qualities built into the glaze. Stroke & Coat is the most versatile, easy to use and forgiving glaze in the market. No wonder we call it a Wonder Glaze.

LABEL DIRECTIONS Shake well. Apply 1 coat for translucent color or 2 or more for solid coverage. Allow to dry. Apply brush on or dipping glaze if desired. Allow to dry and fire to shelf cone 06 (999° C). Designed for bisque, but can be used on clay, greenware, and stoneware. Test first. Do not spray apply without proper personal protective equipment. Food Safe
