Description   Natural Clay for Straw Bale House Construction Sheffield Pottery offers all-natural Clay for Straw Bale Houses. A blend of our clay rich soil, straw and sand creates "light clay" for coating the straw bales for sustainable architecture straw bale buildings and other natural building styles.. We mine our natural clay on-site. Our natural clay has proven to be excellent for the creation of straw bale houses. Green building is becoming increasingly important and straw bale houses are an excellent way to create a home with incredible energy efficiency without introducing many of the harmful elements found in traditional home construction materials. Straw bale houses are environmentally sound and utilize renewable natural resources. Our clay can be custom blended to suit your needs. The Sheffield Clay deposit is located in Sheffield, Massachusetts, on U.S. Route 7 in the Southwest corner of Berkshire County. It is situated in the Housatonic River Valley, 60 miles southeast of Albany, New York and 60 miles northwest of Hartford, Connecticut. The deposit is approximately 300 feet deep and is located on a 16 acre site.  The raw clay is a pure clay, with no stones, sticks or other contaminants. Regional trucking is available. You can arrange to pick up the clay and self-load with shovels. Please call first. We can load your truck but there is a two yard minimum for us to load you. Please call first for delivery or to come and pick up. The clay weighs approximately 2500 lbs per yard.
